In 2018, the TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio Marathon will deal with cancer. Cancer survival has improved in 10 years from 48% to 55%, but there continues to be an important mortality that explains the need to promote research. It is the fourth Marathon dedicated to cancer in 26 years (since 1992). The latest edition on cancer (2012) was the one that collected the most resources so far: 12 million Euros. La Marató is a solidarity project that allows to obtain economic resources for the scientific investigation of diseases and sensitize to the population of all the ages.
In 2016, 38,500 people were diagnosed with cancer in Catalonia and 10,425 could not survive their cancer. Cancer is the leading cause of death in men and the second in women (after vascular cerebral strokes). Cancer will affect 1 of 2 men and 1 in 3 women.
It is estimated that cancer will increase until 2025 and at this year it will be stabilized and reduced by health education campaigns. 40% of cancers can be prevented by healthy living habits.
This year we helped with the speech in Gósol and TV Berguedà. Supporting the Marathon is to support research and improve the survival of cancer, it benefits all of us.
